Sensitive to the impact of construction activities on the planet, Pomerleau has implemented a green plan to review and incorporate more environmentally friendly practices. The Pomerleau Training Centre provides the company's administrative and construction employees with a training and awareness program on the methods and practices that are best for the environment. Nearly 100 employees have already completed this program and a dozen of them have already received their LEED® Accredited Professional designation from the Canada Green Building Council.
The positive outcomes can be seen in the daily routines of Pomerleau employees, whether on site or in the different regional offices. The company's sustained focus and monitoring resources make sure that its actions do not have an adverse impact on the environment.
On the ground, Pomerleau has been the construction manager or general contractor for quite a number of buildings designed to meet LEED® certification criteria. In 2007, the Biological Sciences Pavilion in the Pierre-Dansereau Sciences Complex at the University of Quebec in Montreal was the first Pomerleau project to achieve LEED® Silver certification. Over a dozen other projects designed to LEED® Silver or Gold criteria have been completed or are under construction in Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland), Montreal, Quebec City and Kingston, Ontario.
