Pomerleau has been contracted to design and build three waste water treatment plants for the Halifax Regional Municipality:

  • Cornwallis St./Lower Water St (7,685 m²)
  • Herring Cove (3,136 m²)
  • Dartmouth (7,432 m²)

The contract called for an enhanced primary-level storm water and sewage treatment plant at each of these locations. The mandate entailed architectural, civil engineering, and structural engineering works, and the work included sludge tanks, grit tanks, clarifier tanks, process flow channels, and other components required by Halifax's Advanced Primary Treatment Process.

Among the responsibilities within the scope of Pomerleau's mandate were:

  • budget compliance
  • subcontract negotiation
  • change orders
  • monthly P&L statements
  • cost control
  • project team supervision
  • coordination of mechanical process designer during the design and construction phases, which presented unique challenges as the process designer was working under separate contract.
