The STM operates the City of Montreal's public transit system, which is a vast network of four subway lines and hundreds of buses. The latter are serviced through seven transportation centres, including Legendre. To meet the combined challenges of aging maintenance buildings, the introduction of new low-floor buses and the advent of articulated buses, the STM is undertaking major renovations and updates to its properties.
In this project, Pomerleau is enlarging the Legendre Centre by some 8,600 m2, which includes administrative offices. The firm is also constructing an 11,000 m2 body shop and a 2,500 m2 mezzanine for administrative departments. The maintenance Centre's current capacity of 244 standard buses will be expanded to 202 sixty-foot articulated buses and 117 forty-foot buses, for a total of 319 vehicles.
Particularities:
The new Centre must be constructed with the flexibility to accomodate maintenance work on standard and articulated buses, fibreglass body repairs, and painting.
