The Kenneth C. Rowe Management Building unites Dalhousie University’s four management schools, Business Administration, Library and Information Studies, Public Administration, and Resource and Environmental Studies, under one roof.
This 12,670 m² building’s stone and curtain-wall cladding reflects the blend of heritage and innovation characteristic of the campus and surrounding neighbourhood. It has a concrete structure plus a composite structure for the 2nd level where a 6 ft. high steel beam incorporated into the concrete structure permits large clear spans for classrooms, including one with 400 seats, located on the 1st level.
Smaller classrooms, computer laboratories, administrative offices and work spaces are found on the next 4 floors and a mechanical room on the roof. The basement level has a surface area of 340 m² and houses a second mechanical room, the main electrical room, storage and maintenance areas.
The project included significant interior finishing in wood panelling and mouldings. It also involved major electromechanical work to construct network and electrical hook-ups for computers in all classrooms and a large capacity ventilation system serving the large classrooms.
