On June 2, 2016, Pomerleau participated in a group presentation as part of the CanBIM Halifax Region Session and Technology Exhibition. Magdalena Ordyniec, BIM-VDC Manager, Ontario and Atlantic Canada and Jamie Mills, Project Manager, both of Pomerleau, joined Chris Foran of SDMM Ltd., Robert Spierenburg of MNA Inc. and Mark Doyle of CBCL Ltd. to talk about use of BIM for The Alexander, a 19-storey condominium project in downtown Halifax, developed by Killam Apartment REIT.
Keeping with the overall event theme, Why Not BIM!, the group spoke about the benefits realized thus far. For The Alexander, which is scheduled for completion in fall of 2017, collaboration is a major success driver to date. The presentation showcased the integrated project delivery (IPD)-inspired approach, starting with 3D scanning of the existing facility and site conditions through architectural and engineering design and modeling using Revit and finally, coordination on site using Navisworks. The presenting group also spoke about additional tools and methods of collaboration, providing examples of cooperation between all parties.
The BIM market is growing in eastern Canada and Pomerleau was pleased to be on hand to share its learnings. Magdalena Ordyniec also joined representatives from CanBIM's Board of Directors, including Allan Partridge and Ian Trudeau, in the Certification Ceremony which welcomed new members to the CanBIM-certified community.
