Winners of the inaugural Durabilys Awards, an initiative of the Canada Green Building Council - Quebec (CaGBC-QC), were announced at the Gala of Excellence on March 23, 2016 in Montreal. Soon to become an annual tradition, the Awards honour the exceptional performance of individuals, organizations and projects in the field of green building and design in Quebec.
As the gala's Honourary Chairman, Pomerleau's President and CEO, Pierre Pomerleau, addressed the group, referring to the continued efforts of the CaGBC to promote sustainable development. He pointed out that as a result of these efforts, it is rare today that a client plans construction without LEED certification in mind. He warmly incited the CaGBC to take us to the next level. "What's the next step? How can we raise the bar? Now that we have the technology to back us up, how can we become more green?" he asked the audience. "This is what we should be reflecting on. And I know the CaGBC will take us there."
Three of the 15 awards presented during the gala went to Pomerleau projects:
- Category 1 - LEED for new Construction and Major Renovation: Centre for Sustainable Development, Montreal
- Category 2 - LEED Core and Shell: Telus Place, Quebec city
- Green Roof Award - Industrial/Commercial: Société de transport de Montréal (STM) Stinson bus garage
The gala was part of the first edition of Durabilys, a two-day event also featuring a trade show, workshops and a conference on sustainable real estate.
Pomerleau was among the first construction companies to join the CaGBC in 2005 and is a principal sponsor of the Quebec chapter. For more information on Durabilys, visit http://www.durabilys.com/.
