POMERLEAU often carries out special projects and, over the years, this has led the firm to develop innovative methods and tools. STEP, Pomerleau's Technical and Estimating Department, is always busy, developing tools or methods tailored to project needs, such as:
- Remote-controlled work tool to build an underwater retaining wall 11m under the surface of the water, Port of Montreal, Berths 48-51
- Self-propelled suspended platform to remove bridge formwork inaccessible by either ground or water, Ste-Adèle Bridge, Highway 15
- Vibrodensification in winter conditions, Cabano Bridge, Highway 185
- Prefabrication of portions of deck slabs weighing up to 45 tons or of complete slabs for a bridge rebuild that took place at night, Laviolette Bridge, Phases II and III
- Crane-platform obviating the need to transfer loads on the sectors of the quay being rebuilt, Quai de la reine (Queen's Quay), Canadian Coast Guard
STEP's technical support is available at the tender phase to develop appropriate construction methods for the project or to suggest alternatives following value analysis.
