The 60’s :
Getting off the ground
- 1964 :
Founded as a registered company, the firm starts operating in the commercial, industrial and institutional sectors in Saint-Georges de Beauce, Quebec.
- 1965 :
First contract: Saint-Bernard de Beauce Elementary School, Quebec. Volume for the year: $245,000
- 1966 :
Incorporated as Hervé Pomerleau Inc.
The 70’s :
Expansion beyond the Beauce and creation of two subsidiaries.
- 1970 :
First major contract outside the Beauce and first hospital project: the base hospital at CFB Valcartier.
- 1973 :
Creation of Ciment et Tuiles de Beauce, a subsidiary specializing in fit-up work.
- 1977 :
Creation of Ébénisterie Beaubois, a subsidiary specializing in architectural woodwork and built-in furnishings.
- 1978 :
Pomerleau obtains the design-build-lease contract for Hydro-Québec’s Administrative and Service Centre in Montmagny. It is the first of a series of projects that the company will deliver in this contract mode.
- 1980 :
The annual volume reaches almost $40M and the number of employees tops 300.
The 80’s :
The company opens offices in Montreal and Quebec City. The annual volume grows to over $400M and the staff to over 1,000 people. Pomerleau becomes Quebec’s leading construction company.
- 1983 :
1st major civil engineering project: in 5 months, 75,000 m3 of concrete are poured for the Reynolds aluminum plant in Baie-Comeau. A series of large-scale projects follow.
- 1984 :
Awarded construction contract for the 32-storey La Laurentienne building in Montreal. The project is successfully delivered in 20 months.
The 90’s :
Pomerleau expands its civil engineering department and, in partnership with the French company Bouygues, constructs LG-1, the first run-of-the-river hydroelectric power generating station in the James Bay hydroelectric power complex.
- 1992 :
The opening of the Ottawa office gives the company a stronger presence in the Gatineau and National Capital regions.
- 1996 :
Pomerleau becomes the first construction company in North America with over 100 employees to be ISO 9002 accredited. The company then achieves ISO 9001 : 2000 accreditation.
The 2000s :
Construction, renovation or leasehold improvements, whatever the business sector, alone or in partnership, the company delivers the most significant projects in the province of Quebec. These include the enlargement of Montreal-Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau International Airport in Dorval.
- 2001 :
The opening of the Halifax office enables the company to develop a strong presence in Atlantic Canada.
- 2005 :
Pomerleau is among the first construction companies to join the Canada Green Building Council.
- 2006 :
Hervé Pomerleau Inc. changes its name to Pomerleau Inc.
- 2007 :
The annual volume tops $750M.
